Blue Water

Coming back from this autumn’s shark diving expedition in French Polynesia and Fiji, I remembered one of my first dive trips to the tropics and seeing these beautiful and yes, occasionally scary creatures for the first time. Many moons ago, in Papua New Guinea, I got acquainted with reef sharks – both greys and blacktips. And after that, they became my constant companions in other choice locations such as the Philippines and eastern Indonesia, as well as in the Caribbean, with similar shark species. Since then, my list of sharks has grown to include most of the usual suspects found on reefs, but also on or around oceanic islands and pinnacles.

To this day, however, there has been nothing to match my first encounter with silvertips. Read the true story here.

If you’re wondering what’s happening with my third novel, Magellan’s End, and why I still haven’t posted a teaser on the site, do have patience. As much as I have dedicated my life to writing for pleasure – and also for you, my faithful readers – there are still unexplored places to visit, unreliable regional airlines to battle, and ever bigger sharks to cuddle. Unless you represent one of the few remaining global publishing houses, still printing hardcovers for the diehards, and are serious about signing me up – in which case I may possibly halve my travels and be at your beck and call. Nearly every week.
